Solar panels, manure digesters, and other sustainability initiatives
A farmer lives by the seasons and the rhythm of the day — but to give the next generation a future on the farm, you have to look ahead. Especially today, innovation and sustainability are essential. That’s why both are high on the agenda and investment plans of our farmers.
Solar panels to generate energy, solar collectors to heat water for the cheesemaking process, robotic arms to optimise milking, manure digesters, or even a personal wind turbine — these are just some of the steps our farmers are taking to make their farms as sustainable and future-proof as possible.
Naturally, this mindset extends to our shared warehouse as well. We’re constantly exploring ways to work more efficiently, more responsibly, and more sustainably. For example, we save water by collecting and reusing the cleaning water from our plank-washing system. We also use a heat recovery system: the residual warmth from our climate system is used to preheat the water for cleaning, reducing the energy needed to bring it up to temperature.
All of this helps us reduce our footprint — and ensure that our way of farming and cheesemaking has a future.
“When you take good care of your animals, they’ll take good care of you.”
It’s also essential to care for your animals as best you can. Happy cows are healthier and stay on the farm longer. And happy cows produce high-quality milk — which, you guessed it, makes for better, more delicious cheese.
